Dear African Diaspora,

You are Africa’s extended family, scattered across the world, yet forever connected to the soil that birthed us. No matter where you are today—whether in Europe, America, or beyond—you carry a piece of Africa with you. But now, more than ever, Africa needs you to reconnect. Africa needs you to return—not only physically, but emotionally, intellectually, and economically. It is time for us to come home and help build the Africa we want.

The African diaspora is a powerful force. You have gained knowledge, skills, and experiences that can help transform the continent. Your global perspective gives you the ability to see challenges and solutions from new angles. You hold resources that can fund innovation, education, infrastructure, and entrepreneurship across Africa. You have the networks that can bring global markets and opportunities back to our communities.

But too often, there is a disconnect between the diaspora and Africa. For many, the distance creates a sense of detachment or helplessness, as if you are no longer part of Africa’s future. But nothing could be further from the truth. Whether you left the continent by choice or by necessity, your role in Africa’s development has never been more critical.

Africa is changing. We are witnessing a wave of innovation, entrepreneurship, and creativity like never before. From tech startups to sustainable agriculture, from arts and culture to social enterprise, Africa is on the rise. But we need your help to scale these efforts, to bring them to the next level. The African Union’s Agenda 2063 outlines a clear vision for Africa’s future, but it will take a global effort to achieve it. We cannot do it alone.

As members of the diaspora, you are ambassadors of Africa. You carry our stories, our heritage, and our values with you wherever you go. But more than that, you have the power to influence the global narrative around Africa. You can challenge the stereotypes, highlight the successes, and advocate for the continent in ways that those living on the ground cannot.

So, how do we begin this journey of reconnection?

First, recognize that Africa needs more than just charity—it needs investment, innovation, and engagement. Africa doesn’t need you to “save” it, but to partner with it. Bring your skills, your ideas, and your resources back to the continent. Invest in African businesses, mentor young entrepreneurs, collaborate with local communities, and use your voice to champion African-led solutions.

Second, reconnect with your roots. If you haven’t been back to Africa in a while, it’s time to visit. Spend time with family, immerse yourself in the culture, and see firsthand how Africa is evolving. You will find that Africa is not a place of despair, but a place of hope, resilience, and opportunity. It is a continent ready to rise, but it needs all of its children—both at home and abroad—to be part of the journey.

Finally, understand that your impact goes beyond borders. By contributing to Africa’s growth, you are not only shaping the future of the continent, but also creating a better world for the next generation of Africans, wherever they may be. The future of Africa is global, and the African diaspora must play a central role in that future.

The time to act is now. Africa needs you. Let us come together—those on the continent and those abroad—to build the Africa we want. Let us return to our roots, and let us rise together.

With hope and solidarity,
Adu
